Kannonzaki is in the entrance of the Tokyo bay and Edo shogunate requested construction of a lighthouse to French engineer Verny who was coming for instruction of the Yokosuka iron-manufacture place .
The lighting of the first foreign style lighthouse in Japan was on January 1st,1869 (Architectural starting constructing November 1,1868). The present 3rd lighthouse was rebuilt in June 1925 after Kanto big earthquake of September 1923.
Height from the sea surface to lamp is 56 m,luminous intensity is 140,000 cd, and the light reaches up to 20 nautical-miles beyond.
If spiral stair of the lighthouse is reached and it appears in a view stand, a whole view of the Tokyo bay can be commanded.
Such as the lamps, the lens, etc. which were used for the lighthouse, are exhibited by the material exhibition room.
